a collection of reflections by people i have known

how odd. i watch a movie, come in and find sev has im-ed me. he’s in la. i call, we will catch up this weekend. then i check the site and see matthew mentioned this today. synchronicity.

got some work done today and saw mucho cool art. it was too windy to sit outside and work for too long though. but its always nice to be alone somewhere nice.

finally i got an email from cris bruce through the site. it said ‘If you can’t beat ‘em-join ‘em.

Kisses.’

skimming the site, it seems legit. which doesnt explain the other emails that have purported to be him over the last 12 months or so. but the postings on the site seem to make a little more sense, so who knows?

* * *

holy fuck.

its 2.17am according to my clock. i just got in from hanging out with sev and friends. and it was fucking fantastic.

we went to good luck and then bigfoot lounge. chris’ hatred of la equals my own and it was awesome to have someone from the east coast relate to the things i hated. it seemed sad when he asked what was good about this town and my two answers were: 1. i can wear sandals all year round and 2. there are lots of car chases on tv. and yet, i still cant think of other redeeming qualities.

bigfoot lounge scared him as it does me, which makes me feel less like a freak. i know john loves it, but it is just scarily hip for me. seriously.

the sev might move to san diego as early as may, so it could be that i see much more of him. yes, it s a2 hour drive. but really, thats not awful when it comes to having someone to talk to and hang out with. right?

The state of journalism these past three years has been down right pathetic. Truly sad. But I’m glad to see that at least one guy is following things.

nice weekend so far. yesterday annalily drove me into hollywood. we managed to miss the exit which was a bummer because it made her quite late to see her grandpa. i got dropped off at the subway station and watched an insane guy unpack a bag full of clothes and such, hold each item up, and put it down, repack the bag and start again. his collection included a puma jacket, two bridal veils, a fake ivy sprig which he held over his head when the veils were on, an american flag, a pair of exercise shorts, and an african style shirt. tripp picked me up and had a rose for me which was sweet and made me happy. we had a nice dinner with bridget and went out to a bar.

i came back on the train this morning and went to the animal shelter. i expected to fall in love and have my heart broken in an afternoon’s time. i did fall in love. with a cute little dog named joel who was very shy. it took a while before he came out of his crate to me, but we became fast friends. i walked him for a while and petted him. toward the end of our venture out he let me rub his tummy. while i had him out a couple looking to adopt came over and asked me about him. i told them that he was very shy, but a sweetheart. he leaned against me and let them pet him, and warmed up to them a bit. they were very interested in them. they walked him around for a while, then brought in the dog they already have to see how the two of them got along. he was slightly enamored, she was friendly but mostly obvlivious to him. the dogs were put in a pen together and ran around, and the parents continued to make friendly with joel. if the son likes him, he will have a new home. i was pleased that the doggy i love might have found a family. if that happens every weekend it won’t be so difficult after all.

a lot of people who i know a bit already and like went to the animal shelter. a good bunch of us are going to see lost in translation tonight. maybe i will make more friends–even though most of them are in their last semester. annalily and i also got a lead about a possible off campus house. we’ll have to investigate, but it could all work out very well.

alex is a dandy. he’s dressing beside me. we’re listening to ‘night shift.’ we’re going out to do some shopping. he’s wearing jeans and a printed button-up and a cute zippered vest and a super-cute hat. i want to be alex. my goal for today is lots of pattern…striped shirt, plaid pants, herringbone coat, striped scarf. i need new clothes. i also need to save my money. alex said this morning ‘well dont you look like a dapper young marketing professional’…which made me want to puke because i think marketing people are the most horrendous people. people in marketing wear black pants and those bright blue button-ups. and they have highlights and wear tiffany bracelets with the heart charm. ugh. please god help me avoid this life.

today is going to be a big day. and i cant tell the story until tomorrow because it’s a bit of a surprise, but i’ll have a story tomorrow. in the meantime, get out of the cold. im psyched to shop and eat and hang with al. my life would be so miserable without him.

Vatican City:

Thousands of street gangs have popped up across the world, attacking whomever they choose with scissor kicks and gravity defying head plants. The scariest attack in recent days was the attack on His-holiness the Pope (please note video) by break-dancing teens. This news comes during the same week that Hollywood unleashed the blockbuster You Got Served, a movie so inspiring that the catch phrase the movie’s title is based on has become a national phenomenon.

“At first I thought it was funny, the chick at Starbucks kept saying ‘You got served!’ to everyone who picked up their double mocha caramel latt?,” said Seattle resident Cara Howser. “I started to become concerned when the priest at my church said it to the children.”

Opening right on the cusp of the twenty year anniversary of the profoundly inspiring 1984 hit Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, You Got Served acts like a time capsule in movie form, bringing the outdated elements of break-dancing into our modern day. Although long thought to be the next big Hollywood hit, no one could have predicted the ramifications the movie would have had in such a short time.

Much like how Nunchak gangs became popular after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons and movies, malicious gangs have popped up all over the world, from New York City all the way to Addis Abada, Ethiopia. One local youth did not know how to deal these gangs. “These guys are now running our streets. All over the place all I see is baggy pants. MC Hammer must be rolling over in his grave.” When asked about the violence, he said, “I saw them kill my brother, and then a week later, they danced on his grave. It was radical, in a morbid sort of way.”

Famed “comedian” Steve Harvey, who played Mr. Rad in the movie (yes, the character is actually named Mr. Rad), said he felt horrible about being involved in the film. “If I had known that the movie would have caused this much trouble I would never have become involved with it.” He added soon after, “Ah hell, I can’t lie, I’m such a whore that I would have done it anyways. It was either this or The Original Kings of Comedy part 7.”

There have been recent rumors on the Internet that Saddam Hussein secretly financially backed the production of this movie. Could this in fact be Iraq’s secret weapons plan? Stay tuned for further details.

today is better. i see roxy in like an hour. im not sure what the plan is for tonight, it might be something with john, christina and b or it might not.

in teh span of the last 18 hours, my projects have all gelled, ive got interest for an article i need to churn out this weekend for web publication, maybe found a great person for my thesis committee and everything is much better then it seemed yesterday.

as i typed this, meg sent me a link for ‘the rough guide to…’. check it out; it lists 10-20 items mainly for musical styles. most are ones im familar with (though ive only read about 8 of them so far); they all seem deadon. you could contest one or two on the list, but overall, its solid. a good way to find out about some different styles. kinda like the amazon recommends. except by hand.

lets rock out tonight.
