ch-ch-changes

please excuse the mess. we are in the process of shifting a few things around, so there might be a little dust over the next few days.

feel free to let me know if you find anything skulking in the corners.

(and please note that a lot of urls have changed — but the old ones should redirect as well.)

hours later, i have slept. and the site seems to have shifted over pretty easily, though i apologize for the downtime this morning. let me know if you have any problems…

scolded

i went to the doctor’s yesterday. since there are a lot of kids in the building, staff needs to get TB tests and i technically should’ve gotten mine a while ago. it was a good motivator- it made me sign up with a new doctor and go in for a physical. i picked doctor’s fairly randomly but really like her. the office is really close to the apartment, and i didn’t have to wait at all, so it was all in all a good experience.

i’ve been health focused lately. i’m trying to up my fruits and veggies and making a renewed effort to challenge myself when i work out. any bets on how long it will last?

time

there is a lot i could post about right now. and i will post about some of it later, i hope. but i want to tell this quick tidbit about new york:

while in new york, we walked our parents through times square. i passed a guy on the sidewalk who said ‘excuse me, miss, can i talk to you about jesus?’ and i, per usual, said no. then, he said ‘well how about a comedy show?’ … which really made me laugh. and kind of made my day. i love that the genre of people approaching you on the street is so dictated by cultural norms that we can generally guess what people will tell us before they open their mouths… panhandling, people handing out flyers, people asking for petition signatures. i just loved that this guy made me laugh. it actually made me think his comedy show might be funny.

Please identify project or team accomplishments that you have been part of during this year.

I feel I played a crucial role in re-organizing our filing system, because the colored tabs really help in finding the types of files your looking for. I only wish we’d purchased a bigger variety of colors. I was also the one who led the countdown when we launched the weather machine.

Please identify the individual contributions to the work you made this year.

Resolved dispute over official policy regarding which font to use in e-mails by suggesting MS Sans Serif which has no serifs to appease the Arial crowd, but a little more flair for the Times-New Roman crowd.

What opportunities do you see for improvement related to the work of teams or projects in your department?

I think my department is truly top-notch, and when we put our minds to it we’re capable of anything. We work harder, we work faster, and we have a terrific sense of teamwork. I only wish some of my co-workers shared this opinion. Too often they spend too much time complaining about their assigned tasks and too much time on the phone. I really think we’d do better with a smaller department.

What professional development opportunities would you like to see addressed in the next six months?
I would like a bigger cubicle.

How can your direct supervisor support you more to help you do your job?
I wish she’d stop nit-picking. I mean, I know I’m not perfect, but it’s like I have to hear about every mistake: “This is for accounts receivable, not accounts payable,” “Clipping today’s ‘Cathy’ to hang on your cube is not a priority,” “Please don’t bring a flask to work anymore.” It’s like she just doesn’t ‘get’ me.

What barriers exist to the achievement of your work?

Lava, spinning blades, a boss fight, holes.

Please highlight goals and/or objectives that you have for the remainder of 2006.

My goal is to resign my position here and dedicate myself to finding that wonderful land where money grows on trees and robots aren’t just a fantasy for tomorrow, but a reality for today. Then, with my ready cash and robot army, I will return to conquer this debased and bankrupt land. Then a nice Thanksgiving with family.
