so i hated ‘catch a predator’ and talking about it stirs up ire like you have never seen form me. well, maybe not ‘never seen’, but it gets me very angry. so its nice to hear im not the only person who thinks this is awful. da refuses ‘catch a predator’ cases.

Diabetic Man Missing After Being Kicked Off Train
Police said there is no train station or running water at the crossing, which is about two miles from the nearest road, at an elevation of about 8,000 feet.
Amtrak personnel told police dispatchers that Sims was drunk and unruly.
The Sims family said Sims is diabetic and was going into shock.
classy. seriously, even if the man was drunk, why drop him there? you might as well just toss him from the moving train. why bother to stop?

I’d have to suspect that someone else has this guy’s cell phone somehow (perhaps left on the train?) because it is hard to fathom making it far when help, or even water, is miles away and you’re in diabetic shock. Sheez.

i’ll admit i knew nothing of this until today, when i read it on kottke. but as much as it angers me, it doesn’t surprise me. living in california now, esp in the bay area, people seem surprised when i talk about the racism that still exists in virginia. on tuesday, someone said to me ‘virginia is in the south?’
i love virginia, but there are certainly things about it that need to change. at the top of the list, without pause, is the racism that continues to exist there.

people are always surprised when i consider va the south also. i have to remind them that richmond was the capitol of the confederacy and is very much a part of the south. once you are about 20 miles outside of d.c., va is as racist, rednecked, and conservative as anywhere you can name outside of texas
