How annoying is it to realize, some 15 years on, that I don’t have a copy of “Storm the Studio” by Meat Beat Manifesto on mp3?

I recall, vividly, buying the vinyl from Record Exchange in Fairfax in college, probably my sophomore year. It’s at my parent’s house still.

The annoyance is amped up when I also can’t find it anywhere online. I thought this was why we had the Internet: to find long out-of-print shit that no one in their right mind cares about.

I know this has been ripped; why can’t I find this 20 year old vinyl rip somewhere? (The reason for wanting it are: 1. extra song, 2. the CD version was apparently sped up in order to be crammed onto a single CD.)

“Who better than Burton Morris to paint PopTarts toaster pastries into pop culture history?”

Oh, I don’t know, Andy Warhol? That was kind of his thing, and he was fairly well known…

OK, so Microsoft followed Jason Calacanis’ idea and has offered to buy exclusive indexing rights to Rupert Murdoch’s properties. You have no idea what I’m talking about, right? Here, here, here.

Anyway.

I’m waiting for someone to throw a fit about it. But in reality, it doesn’t matter. It assumes that:

1. there is a public right to news. There isn’t. And as Fox News (and every other cable new channel out there) has shown over the last 20 years, it’s a business. That’s it. And if Murdoch can make more money charging search engines, go for it. It’s not much different than ESPN charging cable providers for streaming rights.

2. that Murdoch’s properties actually deliver news.

I not-so-secretly want this to happen, even if it’s monetarily impossible.

i write in starbucks for a little while each morning before work. that’s mostly irrelevant, except for the fact that i am in starbucks regularly.

the other day i was walking out picked up one of the plastic gift cards outside the door, on the sidewalk. it wasn’t but a foot or so outside the door. i picked it up off the sidewalk and considered taking it back inside; it did seem someone had dropped it. but it was the only thing there and there was no indication how long it had been on the ground. i was with lauren and she even looked at me a little funny for picking it up.

fast forward to today, days later. i used it to buy my tea, fully expecting them to tell me it was an empty card. nope, it had 18 bucks or so on it. crap.

i think ill ask them if anyone had been looking for a lost card. im unsure what else to do, but i totally feel bad now. the card isnt registered but nonetheless, i feel bad for the person who had to have cursed a bunch when they realized their starbucks card had gone missing. with a bunch of money on it.

OK, blatant re-blogging:

I’m late on this yes, but:

  1. Rex said Lady Gaga is the new Matthew Barney.
  2. He is right, of course. As noted by the links he provide to this image of Cremaster 1 and the new Lady Gaga video (below).
  3. Watch this video. Seriously. It’s insane. (And possibly better if you don’t have the sound on.)
  4. And Jezebel broke it down, of course.
  5. This is my new “Trapped in the Closet.”
