a collection of reflections by people i have known

  • Holy shit! You can now buy the script of my sister-in-law’s extraordinary play, and it’s ridiculously inexpensive. If you’ve got six dollars burning a hole in your pocket, this is a rad way to spend it. Just FYI.
  • Apologies (as ever) for the general lack of updates lately. I spend most of my time mulling over politics and trying to tease out issues and arguments (hopefully, someday) to assess them and develop my own opinions on them. But until I’ve got more fully-formed ideas on the concepts, it seems best to leave them out of these posts. No sense in writing something crazily inflammatory that I can’t back up or am not sure of, right?
  • Something that’s not terribly radical, but quite interesting: Emily Martin’s now-classic essay The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles, which is all about anthropomorphizing organisms and parts/products of the body. Highlights: biology textbooks that describe an ovary as a “scarred, battered organ” and sperm that “harpoon” and “penetrate” ova. Bow chicka bow wow.
  • Bonus links, courtesy of YouTube! Ricky Gervais: Politics is Everywhere, Bob Odenkirk signs headshots on David Cross’ behalf, the Kids in the Hall present the Dr. Seuss Bible, and the Kids in the Hall on same gender marriage. Zing!
  • So much for veering away from inflammatory content. Ah well.
