new semester started for me this morning. i hate the first day. my class ended in about fifteen minutes. pretty much the students introduce themselve, and i go over the syllabus. very poorly and quickly. i don’t feel the need to talk down to my students by reading it to them. although there are some key points i didn’t address, that’ll have to wait until monday. i’m surprised at how little preparation i’ve done for this class this semester. i made sure i ironed out every detail before class started last semester.

the beard left about a week after returning to madison. rachel came back and was complaining about it, so to keep her quiet i shaved it. but not all of it. i now sport a sweet biker style hulk hogan moustache. i’ll be long and dead before i get rid of it.

i managed to get almost no artwork done during my break. what little i did has been scrapped, and started over. that means i’m going to have to bust ass to get these projects done. i spent all my time getting slides/dupes made and putting together job applications. it’s so time consuming, and annoying, and costly. i hope it pays off.

i wore a tie to class today trying to be alt hip cool ironic professor guy. i don’t think any of my students got it. they probably think i’m going to wear a tie everyday. oh, and there were crusty food stains on the tie of unknown origin. i also wore a button up cardigan sweater. a little over the top.

i had just typed up stuff and lost it because i am a tard.

i’m bored, poor, and a little stressed. the job search for next year is in full swing, and it’s just annoyingly expensive. making and duplicating various slide packets is such a fucking pain. deadlines are approaching fast and furious after christmas. it’s good that i won’t be in virginia too long so i can attempt to get my shit together before these deadlines.

i need the cartoon network. i’ve always known that i needed it, but it never seemed that critical until now. i am obsessed with samurai jack. but i do not have the time or money to devote to cable television. i need to be ruler of the world so all the stuff i love can be put on massive dvd collections that are accessible.

thanksgiving was excellent. by far the best one i’ve had in wisconsin. about 15 people converged on dave and cassie’s recently purchased home, and everyone brought something. there was a fuck load of food. i had three rounds, and thought i was going to die i was so damn full. the food was great. the company was great. it was a great time. it made today seem so boring and lonely. especially since it’s so gray and cold. i actually woke up pretty hungry, and wishing i could do it all over again.

i was hoping the paper order i made as early christmas gift would be here already. this has me a little concerned, because i have three editions i need to print in the coming weeks. that means ben is going to be a busy beaver until i leave for christmas.

this computer lab closes shortly, and i hiked here in the rain so it will be short.

saw slayer the other night in milwaukee. sound was bad, show was good. awesome. i’ve put myself on a srtict diet of slayer for 10 days.

i hate the yankees. more than anything. more than tripp hates jason mraz. i have morbid thoughts of many players and personnel having serious injuries. career ending. i even have a top 5 stab/hate list.

despite tripp’s pre-judging school of rock is good. american spendor is great. intolerable cruelty is good. and everybody needs to see white hot american summer. one of the funniest movies you’ll ever see.

halloween was good. rachel gets sick at around midnight, so we leave the bar early. last night got drunk, and had fun. apparently there were halloween riots again this year, last night. i’m not sure what happened. gotta watch the news tonight.

teaching is going well. i really enjoy it, and my students continue to surprise me.

it’s been awhile. i can’t help it. i don’t like to write. but i am trying.

okay… teaching. i like it. i like devising assignments and answering questions and preparing lectures and doing demos. all of it. i was nervous that i would be an awful teacher and hate it, but i don’t. i generally enjoy going to class. and the university gave me a studio. which is awesome, because now i have a free studio. it’s smaller and crappier than the one i used to have, but it’s free, and better than nothing. besides, moving studios helped me get rid of a lot of clutter. and organize and wrap all of my paintings. i started making drawings and prints and of course this makes me very happy. but i still haven’t found a part time job. employers are pretty sceptical about hiring someone for only a few hours a week that already has a job and two masters degrees. but on the flip side, i’m not being very aggressive in my job search. the fact that i know i have a paycheck coming makes me a little lazy.
