studio days generally blows. in theory it is a good idea. graduate studios stay open at certain times, and the professors come around and meet you and place a name to a face or to work. it went much better than last year, but still has serious flaws. first off, the professors need to be more consistent in their attitudes and levels of participation. some professors don't show up, some only meet with certain people, some engage the students briefly, make small talk, ask a question or two(which is how it should be done), and others feel the need to give critiques. personally, critiquing in this situation is a bad idea, because the amount of time is very limited, and the purpose of critiques is to establish a dialogue, and form a discussion about the strengths and weaknesses in a work. so when someone has less than five minutes, glances at your work, barks their opinions, and leaves, this serves no real purpose. and on another personal note, i don't need someone i don't know, don't care about, coming into my studio, yelling at me, and then turn around and be perfectly cordial to lenore, and then bark at me one last time before leaving. annoying, stupid, and unprofessional.
