suggested track: "thy horror cosmic" by black dahlia murder
i meant to write earlier in the week, but i didn't. last weekend i went to the milwaukee metalfest with russell. 2 days, over 100 bands. it was fun. most of the bands i was interested in seeing played on saturday, and most of them played before we arrived which pissed me off a bit. black dahlia played at like 2 in the afternoon, which sucks. they were the band i was most looking forward to seeing. oh well… i also missed the locust, and four or five bands i really didn't know anything about (save a song or two), but was interested in hearing. i did get to see dying fetus (unfortunate name, i know), and they were fucking great. i saw bands that i didn't really know, but i liked. naglfar, strapping young lad, dyscrasia, enslaved, antipathy, summer dying (very good), the end (crazy, crazy technical hardcore), and hosts of others i just can't recall at the moment. we didn't stick around for body count on friday, because you know, they suck. we saw one song, and couldn't wait to leave. we also missed vital remains on saturday, because we didn't feel like sitting through three shitty bands to see one band at like 1 a.m. the lowest point would have to have been MOD. if anyone knows anything about this band, you know what i mean. lyrically, they're immature at best. he played the song A.I.D.S. from the album usa for mod which i couldn't believe. and what was more disturbing was watching the crowd pump their fists and sing along. i found it quite troublesome. but, all in all it was a blast. two days of metal. what could be better.
on wednesday i got a call from eric backs. he was in iowa, and was going to drive through madison. so him and lisa arrived wednesday afternoon, and we hung out and drank all day into the night. it was awesome. i haven't seen eric in 2 1/2 years, and i don't think i've actually spoken to him since last november, so it was great to see him, and convince him to stay the night before they had to be off. unfortunately, some of the beer we were drinking that night had some ill effects. or i should say they had ill effects on me. i started my birthday by waking up with a screaming headache, and so nauseus i couldn't practically breathe. that is until i threw up. and then we went out to breakfast where i had a little juice, one piece of toast, and threw up again at the diner. i barely made it to the bathroom. so i took a nap, bought a bunch of comics and gatorade, and read. had some people over for a bbq, and took it real easy. i even went to bed pretty early. all in all a very low key birthday. but i am okay today, and was really glad to see eric on wednesday. good times for the wild spirits.
