I finally caught up with Rachel. Not the Rachel on this site, but the one that was my girlfriend for six months during my senior year of college. The one that I stopped going out with 5 years ago and hadn't spoken to since. The one I procrastinated about reaching out to ever since.

In the end I realized that with homecoming coming up that there was really no one else from college that I really cared about catching up with. I've been tight with my Freshman Hall crew and my radio station crew ever since and she was the only person who really ever meant anything to me that I wasn't still in touch with.

So I tracked her down. I found her friendster profile and with no small amount of apprehension shot off a message. I put my odds of hearing back from her at about 50/50. The breakup was messy and let's face it, it's been 5 years. What were the odds that she would want to hear from me now?

But sure enough, as I was settling into a nice evening of getting plastered in front of the Monday Night Football game the phone rings. It was a good conversation, but I really wish I'd been sober, because I might have been a little disjointed and it's hard to tell someone you haven't spoken to that you're a little fucked up on a Monday night. Realize: I never do that. Never. But I was finally feeling over my cold and my muscles were aching a bit from golf over the weekend so it was easy to tip a few back in peace after being out of town over the weekend.

Anyway, I'm fairly sure I didn't sound like a total idiot and it was great to hear her voice again. I did get a pretty amazing highlight reel of the last five years of her life: Med school in Atlanta, training from the Army who apparently picked up the bill for med school and who now have her in the reserves for the next four years, current gig at a hospital in Queens, apartment in Kew Gardens (it's such a small world), her eighty hour work week and most weirdly of all her sister Sarah's current appearance on the Real World: Philadelphia.
