The problem with mass transit

A couple of days ago a local restaurant, Joe's Inn was robbed at around 4pm. Not spectacular in itself to be sure, as these things happen all the time in and around the Richmond area. The thing that really caught my attention (made me laugh hysterically) was that the man was caught about ten minutes later…..

at the nearest bus stop waiting to catch the bus. This obviously raises some serious and important questions:

1: First of all, why do you rob a restaurant at 4pm? Right before the dinner rush is basically right before they have any money anyway. Not to mention in broad daylight in a fairly busy part of town.

2: What will be the bus industries reaction to this potentially devastating bad press? What would happen if they lost the key armed robber/fugitive on the lamb demographic to this kind of publicity? Which leads to the next question:

2a: Was the bus late or did he not have acces to a proper bus schedule guide? Or was it a clever ploy by the restaurant staff? (if we give him the money really fast, the cops will have more time to catch him before the bus comes, type of thing) Obviously, that would require a little thinking outside the box, but I think we can all learn a lesson there.

In conclusion, I think the moral here is that theives in Virginia can be just as stupid as theives anywhere else, which is pretty obvious, but sometimes it's nice to have it confirmed.
