A veritable landmine of absurdity

I'm about to do the most inane and downright stupid thing that I've ever done on this site. I'm going to argue for a second about Tripp's opinion of my opinion of the Resident Evil movie. Not because I care (or any of you either, or Tripp for that matter), but just so we can all be really clear on my views on this movie. I mean ever since his 4/4 post (i would put a link but it's on the main page right now so as soon as he posts next, it would be wrong anyway), the e-mails have just been pouring in: David, is that really how you feel about the plot twists? they ask me. What are your opinions on the defense systems? The list goes on and on. Or maybe I just don't feel like being productive or contributing anything worthwhile today. Whichever, it's plain to see I have my reasons.

First of all, in a general sense we both agree that it wasn't as bad as either of us thought it would be. The part I had issues with was when he said: "…and the plot had a few holes that bothered me (david, on the other hand, didnt mind them at all). (who would build a defenisive ai system and then put all communication points with said system behind the defenses? i still maintain this makes no sense - you have to fight past the ai to converse with it? what kind of backwards logic is that?)"

First of all, on the subject of not having issues about plot holes, I was the first one to point one out, like three seconds into the movie. They were after all, almost countless.

On the issue of the ai/defense system I also have a few points.

1 - The defense system was there to protect the lab and the ai was there to help run it. Where else would it be but behind the defenses. I mean it would work great to have this elaborate ai that runs all the defenses and then just leave it out somewhere else where it would be vulnerable. Or maybe construct a whole other defense system just to protect the ai. But then you'd need another ai to run that and you're back to square one.

2 - You don't have to fight past the defense system to converse with it. On a normal day people just walked up with their passes and walked right in. It's just when there's a biological catastrophe that it shuts down. And, by the way, just because those umbrella security guards couldn't converse with the ai from the outside didn't mean it wasn't possible. I'm sure it was possible. They weren't going there to just converse with it. They had to physically remove the board and shut it down if necessary, which is a lot different.

3 - to anyone who has actually read this far, you have my heartfelt apologies for wasting your time in such a sad way.

I just had to say that I obviously did mind plot holes when they actually existed, and for someone for who has not even a week ago stated his dislike for having words put in his mouth, Tripp was painting with a fairly broad brush. Not agreeing with one assesment of one small part of the movie is not the same as not minding plot holes at all.

This is long, pointless, and stupid. I feel like I need to be punished just for writing this.
