The sound of the wheel

Life has been progressing along nicely. The job is great, providing tons of experience, challenges and travel opportunities. I feel like there is so much going my way lately. I have so much I could talk about. Among the plethora of things, I could talk about the shear amount of media I've been consuming (books, movies, TV, sporting events, art, etc.), the excellent concerts I've seen (Decemberists, Sons & Daughters) and will see soon (Weezer, Foo Fighters, Hot Hot Heat, Constantines, Hold Steady and uggh, the Eagles), and everything else all good and nice, but I don't feeling like it. Rather, I'd like to talk about how much my girlfriend, literally, kicks ass.
We were in Vegas a couple of weeks ago for one of her company parties, this one taking place at the Ghost Bar in the Palms. The company paid for an open bar for three hours, so we were enjoying all the mid-shelf free booze we could stomach. Not a bad deal if you ask me. There's this guy named Matt, who I guess is in his later 30's to early 40's, but has the maturity of a 16 year old. I've known for a while that he has had a thing for my girlfriend, and she wisely told him to back off months ago.
After the owner of the company made a complete fool out of himself by dressing up as Elvis and singing songs, the party started to wind down and we were about to leave. We were hanging around the bar, and Christina looks over to see that her purse is missing. I immediately start to go around the area looking for it, and eventually start talking to the manager, who proceeds to call out on the radio that a purse is missing. The whole place is now on the case.
I return to report on what's going on to see that Christina now has her purse back in her possession and is a mere inch or two from Matt's face, yelling at him. She then quickly backhands him in the face. I immediately figure out that Matt took her purse. As I walk closer I ask a guy (who happened to be one of Matt's friends) what's going on, and he confirmed that Matt did in fact take her purse as a joke. I ask if I should kick his ass, and the friend tells me I should. Now, I've never heard of a guy friend believing that someone should kick his friend's ass. This was serious.
Matt says something to the effect that he doesn't understand why his joke is such a big deal. Christina informs him that you don't take people's valuables, especially ones that are hard to replace and can potentially be used to steal one's identity. I too tell him it not right, and then ask Christina if I should take care of the problem. She says no, and we walk away.
I later find out that before I got back to the bar that Christina had not slapped him once but three times (one open handed, two back handed) and had kneed him in the balls. I was thoroughly impressed. Not only had she stuck up for herself, but also humiliated him in the process. Not too shabby.
So let it be known that if you fuck with Christina, she'll fuck with you back. I'm one lucky guy.
