The Rythm's Gonna Get You Pregnant

The music argument's getting old, isn't it? I also seem to get lumped into the group of people, who may not even exist on this site, who think everyone should get music for free, just because it's "art." Or who believe downloading copyrighted material isn't illegal ever becaue it's such a spanking new (and private) technology. But two things: I don't buy Tripp's idea that if he posts copyrighted material for download, and then it gets downloaded by people who don't already own it, that he (Tripp) shouldn't be held responsible. But there's probably a workable way to have mp3 sharing between lazy owners of whichever cd, who don't want to go to the trouble of making mp3s themselves. which would certainly be covered under fair use.
And as far as Chrispy saying bands should just spend 30 at Radioshack and DIY, here's a little demonstration:
This isn't the best example, and the "studio" version still needs a ton of work. There's a couple thousand dollars worth of equpipment's difference between the two takes and I'm using "studio" very loosely. It hasn't even been run through the 1000 distressor yet, which seems like it would do very little, with just four or five knobs, but makes a world of difference. Plus the rest of the equipment which hasn't been used to its utmost, which makes the sound even better. And there actually are people who care about the quality of sound. (although I should note I shrank the files to better fit the web, so a little quality is lost) Plus, I'm not sure you can dismiss the 10000 for lodging in studio so quickly, since recording in studio takes a lot of time. You don't just go in and play through like you do at 9:30, each member sits down and does it individual, doing take after take after take after take, then new takes on different parts, plus people like to do a lot of overdubbing, throwing in extra intruments a new guitar track, etc, etc, weeks, if not months (hopefully not more than two, but still) can be sent getting a recording you and the record company are happy with. And 3000 for catering…just bring a sandwich. That's a shitload of sandwiches if you're on tour for three or four weeks. You might want to feed your roadies too. Plus, the label might not give them the choice to go with the lowest bidder.
But I suppose the band could also save money by running it's own PA at shows, of course one of them would have to bone up on running a mixing board, and quit playing to go tweak it, or they could skip the digital recorders and just by a twenty dollar Casio, or better yet, they could just skip the instruments altogether and just hum the tunes with their mouths. Now that's cheap!
Speaking of music, I recieved a nice piece of friendly (for once) mail:
Regarding post: post 305

well, just in case you don't, here's a url that hopefully still works

Thanks, mysterious stranger.
*the tunes may not be up immediately. It's all the damn red tape.
