Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Uh…dunno.
Q: What if you didn't have to worry about the cost or time involved, what would you do?
A: Retire…?
I'm nearing the end of my third decade and the future is still an enormous blank. I've earned a BA in English and an AS in Computer Science. I've turned all my interests around like a Rubik's Cube to see how they could become feasible career options, and spent countless hours at the Bureau of Labor Statistics looking at job descriptions, requirements, salary ranges, etc., and all I've really found out is that I don't want to be a computer programmer. At all.
But tonight I may have made a breakthrough. After taking several career aptitude tests, the most common career recommendation:
Career Counselor
Which makes perfect sense. At least if career counseling is something like Amway, where more counselors means more money kicked up to the top, then I can see why that keeps coming up. Seriously, if you ever find yourself in position where you need counseling from me, just buy a paper and read your horoscope, because that's pretty much where I'd get my reccommendations for you. Let's see, you're a Libra…and it's Tuesday, so…bank teller. Says here, "You'll take a long voyage"…plenty of opportunities in the trucking industry!
