'to be here'

there are posters about the city that read, "don't let september 11 become just another day." i believe very much in that sentiment. 9/11 is so much of a part of this city that it feels almost tangible.

i wanted to honor the day and i went to the world trade center this morning for the remembrance ceremonies. it was almost more than i could bear, but at the same time, people walking around quietly, not bothering to hide their tears - created the amazing sense of community. this year's commemoration focuses on siblings; brothers and sisters read the names of those lost four years ago today. listening to their voices, thick with tears and sadness and longing, was almost more than i could bear.
