'cock-a-doodle-doo'

so my hair has been lookin' kinda disasterous of late. i had the dark eggplant color thing going on around christmas, and an unsuccessful colormatch a month ago left my roots a strange strawberry blonde. i finally sucked it up and went for professional help today to get me back to my natural color. well. a prettier version of 'dirty blond.'

unfortunately, maro, my stylist, did not want to strip the dark color out of my hair and redye with a nice dark blonde, as i had hoped. she argued that this would be too damaging to my hair. i wanted to ask her if she knew who she was dealing with, given my three years experience with the blackest black sold to womankind permanently inking up my locks in HS and college. but i figured she was the expert, so i went with it. she convinced me that a low-light/highlight combo would do a nice job of tying my color schemes together while the dye lightened over time and my roots grew in some more. it sounded plausible. she went to work and i got absorbed in elle. while she fussed and painted and rearranged, she asked if i wanted a little trim and a layer or two. i said sure, and went back to my reading.

about an hour and a half later, my chair was spun around with maro's triumphant viola!, and there before me i saw myself with the rachel. only ten or so years past its prime.
