'the right way to do things'

it was different spending this september 11 in virginia. in new york, 9/11 is around every day. a feeling of loss permeates the city, the people. not in a wallowing way, or in a manner pathetic. but in a profound feeling that this is new york and something happened here.

i feel guilty that for even a moment the anniversary was not on my mind first thing this morning. i'm scared to forget, and more scared that so many others already have.

i wore a shirt today with an american flag on it. silly, maybe, or cheesy, or something like that, but an acknowledgment. i feel like i need to put it out there, to proclaim somehow, i haven't forgotten.
