little miss sunshine is a fantastic, fantastic movie. abigail breslin was so good and a refreshing departure from what seems like the default of all young girl movie parts going to dakota fanning (whom i actually do like, despite all her creepy adult-like qualities and precociousness).  i also really enjoyed seeing  steve carell in a more understated role.

todd and i did our christmas last night since we'll be apart for the actual holiday, and i think i really may have met my match in terms of gift-giving.  i am realizing how nice it is to be on the receiving end of some spoiling.

as part of our celebration we went to see 'a christmas carol' at the blackfriars playhouse here in staunton.  the actualy venue is beautiful and i was really happy with the production.  i've never seen this work spun with any kind of comedic bent (other than they mickey mouse and muppet versions) and i was pleased with how they could add bits of humor while maintaining the integrety and original intent.

this time tomorrow i will be with my dad and his dog in frankenmuth, michigan in the home of my wacky grandparents.  going there seems a bit like going back in time.  i am sure i will return home to modern civilization brimming with stories of zaniness.  they will be celebrating their seventy-second wedding anniversary on sunday.  may we all be so lucky.

happy holidays, everyone!
