i have never been one to hide the fact that i pretty much avoid politics. i understand it's not a smart decision to be ignorant about what's going on or abuse the right i have to vote, though, and as a result, i appreciate this website. it breaks things down really well, matching you up with the potential presidential candidate most aligned with your personal belief system. as far as i can see, it appears bias-free - created to educate and encourage people to vote, not to push a particular party or candidate. oversimplification of the process of candidate selection, perhaps, but good for those of us who don't know what from what in the political arena.
my first match was mike gravel, whom i have to admit i had never heard of before. our belief systems were about 80% compatibility, with the biggest conflict in our views being in pay raises for teachers. hmmm.
hillary and john edwards came in at a 78% match for me. i like the idea of supporting a woman's bid for the presidency, i just wish my option for this was a little more…personally appealing. barack, whom i also would like to like more, was at a 76% match for me. ron paul, whom my sister and brother-in-law have a scientologist-comparable level of devotion to, matches up with my thinking only 44%.

Well, surprise surprise.
Gravel was 85%
Edwards was 81%
Obama and Clinton were tied at 79%
I would have gone for Edwards had he been viable; as is, I long and dream for an Obama/Edwards ticket. That would have me excited more than any other ticket I can recall, save maybe the fictional ones.
(Obama and I disagreed over the PATRIOT Act extension. But he appears to be moderate about it overall, while I am bit more reactionary. I am sure that's because I've been upset at it over the last 8 years.)
As an aside, it appears that Gravel is running as a complete Independent. no wonder his visibility isn't as high as it perhaps should be.
Gravel and Edwards at 80%, Clinton at 79%, O'Bama at 76%. I've liked Edwards for a while, but I suppose I could vote for the Irish kid, too.

And I can't see Edwards signing on as the veep again. Frankly, I don't see senators winning general elections much. The dem winner would be wise to pick a governor from somewhere.
I'm sad that I'm this unenthusiastic about any candidate. It's almost like "Okay, let's just get this horrible chapter of US history behind us. Anybody will do." The big thing, in my mind, will be congressional outcomes in november. I just really wish there were term limits. That branch of government is frankly like a blight on this country.
