Other five-year-olds listen to Raffi.
Today, mine requested proto-punk rock band The Stooges.
I should note (through no real failing of my own) I don’t typically listen to punk and I’m pretty sure I don’t have any songs by The Stooges on the ol’ iPod. But today as we were about to get out of the car, Fresh Air was on NPR, playing a short tribute to Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, who passed away today. I turned off the car to get us all out, but Reed cried in alarm “Why can’t we listen to that?”
So I put the key back in the ignition and there we were, having a driveway moment, with my son rocking out to “Search and Destroy.”

You’re doing something right. How many dad’s get to say they blew their kids minds with music? Congrats, you got to be the one to open up a whole new world to him. Given, of course, that he doesn’t forget.

you’re son needs to rock out to “no fun”. and “i wanna be your dog”, despite all the horrible car commercials.
also, you might want to introduce him to the misfits. you know he wants it.
