yesterday i accompanied my gram to an appointment with an occupational therapist. toward the end of the visit the therapist ran some memory tests. the first question was 'what year is it?'. after a long pause my gram answered '1983…..no, 1984′. she did better on most of the other memory questions, but it worries me. her memory is totally fine about some things, but then there are these occasional glitches. from her symptoms it doesn't seem like alzheimers to me, more like a signal that she may have had a small stroke, but we shall see what the doctor says next week. its so hard seeing her so…old. she's always been a very youthful person and this fall among other things really knocked it out of her.
my uncle jon visited, arriving friday and leaving monday. it was wonderful to see him (as always). it was a laidback visit and we didn't get that much one on one time. i hope that either he comes back to portland soon when i'm here, or that i can come up with the funds and time to go and see him sometime soon.
i got some kitchen stuff yesterday to bring to wherever i end up. i was trying to thing of things that make me feel at home and i like having the little kitchen things around that make me feel at home. yesterday my mom bought me a mushroom brush and a very nice wooden cooking spoon– they are next to impossible to find in the shape i like. i then poked around the basement and found some other small things which will serve as sentimental treasures, such as a cheese knife with 'M' on it for my gram's last husband who was a wonderful figure in my childhood.
my mom and i have plans for a fun day today but have to wait for a plumber first. he said '8:30 on'. if he shows up at 11 i will feel violent.
