i took a walk down hollywood blvd today. there are blossoms on the trees!
i have a job offer. i have until monday to decide. decisions decisions.
on wednesday i applied for the job, and got a phone call to set up an interview for thursday. i figured out how to bus there.
thursday afternoon i decided to take the bus that left at 12:31 instead of 12:38. i arrived at the stop in front of torung several minutes early, but the bus didn't get there until 12:40 something. i took the bus to fairfax and hollywood, where i'd written down i should get off. of course, i was an idiot, and was supposed to actually get off at fairfax and wilshire. i walked along fairfax for a while, up a couple stops. it seemed like forever before the next bus came. in the meantime i got to watch a guy scream at a girl about what a bitch etc. etc. she was, tell her to leave him alone, smack her, run off, watch her follow him, and then get punched before he ran off further.
the bus came, i got off at the proper stop and tried to figure out which direction west was. figured it out, and waited for the bus i was to transfer to. the 20 and 21 both use the stop. i was freaking out at this point. it was going to be very close as to whether i'd make it in time. i needed the 20 and the 21 pulled up. there was a line of people getting on, including someone who needed the ramp. as the ramp was being raised back into the bus, the 20 pulled into the intersection. i watched expectantly as the 20 pulled around the 21. and kept going. despite me and several other people wanting to get on it, and the bus not being full.
i called the office i was interviewing at and said i was going to be late. they were nice about it. then i called tripp and tried to hold back tears with limited success. finally the next 20 came by. i was only about 15 minutes late, but had intended to be there 40+ minutes early ("in case") and 15 minutes late is pretty terrible for a job interview.
i figured i'd blown it. the attorney was very friendly, the interview lasted nearly 2 hours. it included a lot of chatting, both about me personally, my aspirations, his take o law, the things he loves and hates about it, a spelling test (i haven't had one in years! it was pretty nice– i could see the underlines in my head when i wrote down words and knew then how to correct what i put down if it was wrong s i did well on it), a grammar test, which i did less well on, a typing test which i did very well on (he dictated, i typed and at the end i had to take my fingers off the keyboard. i knew i'd made an error in the first paragraph– typed bellow instead of below, and he let me make the change since i'd known i'd made the error). then, he offered me the job.
so, decisions decisions. this weekend will be full of thinking about it. i'm leaning towards taking it as of now, as my biggest reservation is the pay and lack of benefits. i think those are stupid reasons to not take the job since it might help me once and for all figure out if i want to pursue law or not. we'll see.
