vacation with the family in san diego was wonderful. i'm so luck to have a family i enjoy spending time with. this year, in addition to family time, i saw some friends- an extra bonus during a fabulous week.

on monday i made yummy food and don't want to totally forget the recipe. i made fettucine with a lemon cream sauce with shallots and leeks, served with baby green beans, arugula and dried cranberries. i cooked about 10 chopped shallots in some butter, olive oil and salt until they were starting to brown. then i added sliced leek- two leeks, white and light green parts. after cooking for several minutes i added a dash of vermouth. when that cooked out a bit i added a lemon and a half of juice. i waited a little longer then added a container of cream (not sure if it was 6 or 8 oz) and two cups of milk. it didn't thicken as much as i had wanted, so i sifted in a tablespoon of flour, a couple teaspoons of grated paremesan and a drip of honey. i served it over the fettucine and sprinkled it with dried cranberries. i served arugula, sliced yellow heirloom tomato (not sure what kind), steamed baby gren beans and garlic bread on the side.

yesterday there was a fender bender in the lane next to me. i was at a stoplight and watched as a car was rear ended. i couldn't tell if the woman was hurt- it looked like her head hit the steering weel and she covered her face with her hands and was crying. i stopped and handed off my contact info to the drivers. it made me feel skittish driving the rest of the day.
