I hate to depress you right before a 3 day weekend, but this is some serious shit. mightgodking has been following it and I have been reading it all and I am scared shitless from it all. This is all related and all truly and completely awful.

i must apologize for a lack of posts. we have just returned from a glorious week at cape hatteras. though i had internet there, i shockingly spent my time doing other things.

(it looks like we got out just in time, as the weather channel is, right this second, reporting on the tropical storm that has now hit the outer banks this evening. looks like the waves are picking up already and it looks like the entire area is going to get nasty weather over the next couple of days.)

ill have pictures and probably some stories, but the short list of activities looks like this:
loads of scanning old family photos, kayaking, ocracoke island, loads of swimming in the ocean, food, family, wine and loads more. it was a quality vacation.

but its winding down and ill be back at work on monday. the good news is that i can get back into a regular schedule, something long overdue, what with the kidney stone, the san diego trip and now this. the bad news is that, yes, ill be back at work.

i hope your week went well and you didnt spend too much time crying over my silence.

sometimes i'm good, then i'm bad

last night while i was trying to fall asleep my toe dislocated. it does that sometimes, usually at night, ocassionally while i'm asleep. its rather painful. tripp found it funny.

since my last post i've tried to post a few times but have had errors. now, i figure i should post since its really busy and i have a million other things to do.

i started this post two and a half hours ago. can't tell for how much i've written. thats what i get for trying to post at work.

i went to the dmv yesterday. i had to leave the building to get my car inspected and was almost locked out before i could re-enter (the door was locked, but i had a ticket number so they let me in. i was just shy of not being let in though). the dmv is a strange strange place.

a couple weeks ago we did a walk-through at stanford and i ended up with mild heat exhaustion. i don't think i've ever had as much water before in my life as i had that evening trying to recover. in the next week there will be more- thank goodness the heat wave is over.

fourth of july weekend was the calm before the storm. it was so so nice to have a break. we'd looked into travel, and i'm sure if i had ended up flying somewhere i would not have been as rested. as it was, we managed a day trip to monterey to go to the aquarium- i enjoyed it a whole lot and would love to go back on some un-crowded day to stare at the lovely creatures there. it was so nice to see the ocean.

i wonder if there's a point at which as a species we will have become so advanced that the time it takes to learn everything one needs to know will be so vast that no one will have time left to build on the current knowledge or technology. or, perhaps, if we were to near that point, our life expectancy would increase.
