ha.
i only got sick last night and i figured the trick out - i cant take sudden movements. this is esp true in bed - rolling around. its also true for sitting down and standing up. i think if i move more slowly and sleep entirely on my back, ill improve much faster. im pleased, as the whole sleeping for an hour or two at a time is getting a bit old.
other news, finally.
aubrey and mike both sent me this crucial bit of information. im not sure which of them put it better.
mike: to lift your spirits…You have to hold out for another week-Jason Mraz is going to be playing some ancient musician from the sixties on American Dreams. Now he's in two decades! If that doesn't cure you, I don't know what will.
aubrey: so apparently the mraz is going to be playing dion on american dreams next week. & there are pictures of him in costume. crazy world. the world's worst songwriter appearing on the world's worst nostalgic drama.
boulder was rad. denver blew.
i got in and andrea and i spent about an hour and a half trying to find my cousin ben in denver. he didnt give good directions (mainly marred by his seemingly confused state about the difference between interstate 70 and 470). we finally caught up with him and girlfriend and had lunch. we sat around the restaurant for about 2 hours or so and it was a nice visit. i wish i saw him more and didnt feel like i had to resort to small talk.
apparantly, his parents might be through la in the summer and he might be through in later summer. carter might come in a few months, linda is here in a few weeks. so itll be nice to have people i love passing through town.
then we drove from denver (shithole) to boulder (rad).
(i got email when i got home that adam and chaz are in boulder. but ive been so sick, i havent answered the email. im pissed i missed them, but by the time i left, i was in no shape. i would like to say ill be back this summer, given time and schedule. we shall see.)
i got a lot of reading done, some movie watching ('open range' is god awful) and some writing (maybe about 1000 words of the new novel).
things that cracked me up: i took ginger ale on the plane. now, i dont fly with checked luggage whenever i can do it. the ginger ale was in my bag. and it was glass bottles. has anyone else thought about this? they let me carry on glass bottles without saying a single thing. a glass bottle! you cant take nail clipers because they might be a weapon, but a glass bottle is ok? oh my.
ipods dont turn off really. so it cracks me up when i carry mine on the plane, because even when they say to stop using it, i know its still awake. surely airlines and apple are aware of this.
finally, this week. 'dogville', lars von triers newest movie plays at the egyptian on tues night at 7.30. 'cremaster 1 and 2' are a double feature thurs night at new beverly cinema. fri night at the egyptian is 'ace in the hole' (billy wilder/jack lemmon) which is unavailable on vhs/dvd. sat and sun afternoons are screenings of lars von triers 'the kingdom' (split into 2 parts).
i would love company to any or all of these, given my health holds/continues to improve. (currently, i think im sitting at about 79%, so thats an improvement towards being 100%.)
let me know - these should all be awesome shows.
