i wiped my ipod last week. it is locking up on my computer and i needed to see if resetting it helped. (it didn't.)
wiping it was a painful process; it took me several days to find a program to help backup (into a text file) some of my playlists and such. the entire thing was a bit messy.
but it was cleaned off. i'm now in the process of 'rebuilding' it, along with my entire music collection. i need a solid sat afternoon to sit down and triple-check tags and such. my music collection is too huge.
but it was interesting to note what bands/albums i moved over to this newly cleaned ipod. what music i thought i would want in a generic sense.
the orb.
future sound of london.
guns n roses.
ballboy.
meat beat manifesto.
james lavelle.
soul coughing.
underworld.
u2 (achtung baby, unforgettable fire and under a blood red sky).
i think that was about it. i did go back and add some pwei; i found myself wanting to hear 'harry dean stanton' and not having it.
i just made a new 'top 25′ playlist to see what i really have been listening to.
turns out that stanton warriors fabrliclive cd is rocking my top 25 — because ive listened to it 3 times in the last week. a ballboy track is there, along with 'soul driver' by meat beat manifesto.
all this is weird, because my top 25 list on the old ipod was much more stable — 'jal to toyko' by underworld ruled.
oh and here is the link to another album you should listen to — the trip by jarvis cocker and steve mackey. the complete opposite of the stanton warriors. oh and just buy the damn ballboy album already.
so what's in your top played lists on your ipod (or itunes. or winamp. or whatever)? and what music would be the first to be thrown back on a new ipod?

it's ridiculous you aren't using lastfm. it pains me. pains me.
well, with that, i will go open an account right now. so there, who says i don't listen?
I recommend iScrobbler, rather than the default lastFM app. It's much lighter weight, and is just a plugin to iTunes rather than a whole thing.
that's what i grabbed; i wanted to make sure that i was snagging music off my ipod, since that is where all my music lives.

not in love with it yet, but what do i know?
I added you… you'll get into it. overall, there are lots of problems with it, but I love keeping track of my stuff this way.
Top played depends on a lot of things since I have so many different playlists, but overall (along with work out music) here you go. I know we have very different tastes in music, but I am bored at work and I am going to list almost every band that I can think of:
Radiohead
The Smiths
Sigur Ros
BEASTIE BOYS (my favorite)
Rancid
Jeff Hanson
Jeff Buckley
The Killers
Depeche Mode
Nine Inch Nails (older stuff, definitely)
Tori Amos
The Arcade Fire
New Order/Joy Division
The Postal Service
The Cure
The Talking Heads
Missy Elliott
Lady Sovereign
JT (only SexyBack because it's so damn catchy)
Death Cab for Cutie
The Beatles/John Lennon (no thanks to itunes)
2Pac
Weezer
Sara Bareilles
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Cheesy 80s music (such as Journey, Chicago, R & B and also hair bands)
Soundgarden
The Shins
Coldplay
Notorious BIG (although I only like a few of his songs)
Eminem/D12
Imogen Heap
Mylo
Sasha
Digweed
Keoki
Underworld
Prodigy
Travis
The Rolling Stones
Pearl Jam
U2
Ill Again
Foo Fighters
