a collection of reflections by people i have known

Saw “The Dark Knight” last night with Lori and Rachael and Mike and Kurt. I’ve already read 100 million reviews, so I won’t say too much. If you don’t want to know anything, skip out, but let’s give the movie a B+.

Consider this fair warning for spoilers, ok?

ok.

Firstly, and most importantly, as Mike Sterling points out:

Dude, Batmanuel as the mayor of Gotham. Fantastic. Was that particularly heavy eyeliner he was wearing, or does he normally look like that?

This was the first thing Kurt and I spoke about upon leaving the theater. And after seeing him as Batmanuel, continuing to refer to him as such on Lost and now this, I can say — he normally looks like that. It can’t be eyeliner; unless maybe, maybe, he is actually Brett Michaels and/or it is somehow tattooed on.

Secondly, most of the things I had seen about the Joker, about the pacing and the length of the movie were true. To me, Kurt disagreed. (That is: Joker is amazingly fantastic, the pacing suffers when he isn’t onscreen and esp through the romantic subplot and that the movie is a little on the long side.)

Thirdly, the trailers. Since these aren’t actually spoilers, I’m going to post about them later.

Fourth, do you think Ledger would have reprised his role had he not died? I spent the entire movie wondering if, like every superhero movie, the Joker would die at the end. And then he didn’t, which made me wonder if Ledger would have come back. Or if there would be a “Dark Knight Returns” made. I’m sure there is already some kind of plan in place, but still. I want more of him in that role.

Also, don’t you think the police would have removed the makeup when they took him into custody?
